The Door Shut Behind...

The door shut behind me and I sighed with relief. After months of erotic writing I found that I still had certain areas that I was shy about. I could walk into a sex shop and chat up everyone there without blushing - but a drug store? It still made me uncomfortable.

Perhaps if the cashiers weren't always teenagers I wouldn't care. But when I find a 16 year old boy ringing through my condoms and lube- it just makes me want to get out of there as quickly as possible. Silly really that I would even give a passing thought to imaginary adolescent snickering - the thought of it just annoyed me more than anything.

The other night I made my first lube purchase. Surprising at my age that it wouldn't have come up as necessary before now. I guess I don't have too many issues with moisture.

I found that it became a necessity once I began doing product reviews. When was simply using my toys because they were fun and I was in the mood it wasn't a problem. But when I began to encounter deadlines - well the playtime became a bit less leisurely and more of a demand. And sometimes? I just haven't been in the mood- which made the review that much harder to do.

Lube seemed a simply solution, although I was fully aware that I was doing things a bit backwards. Just because I could now insert the toy with ease didn't mean that my mindset was in anyway improved. A valuable lesson here boys: with women, it's much more about the mind than it is about the body.

One does have to be aroused to enjoy the toy (and the experience). Playing with the toy does not make you aroused. It just doesn't work that way.

Anyhow...

One thing that I hadn't counted on - which definitely did NOT assist in the arousal experience? How positively frigid the lube would turn out to be. Chemicals or not, the next time I don't have a willing partner to assist? I'm going for the warming kind - what a shock to the system!

Toy companies? Paying attention? That'll be my next request...

It is uncomfortable to have a teen boy ring out your purchases of intimate items!! I can totally understand... And, good lesson-point re: mind v. body :)

What a hurdle... I still haven't made the purchase at a drugstore yet... (only sex-shops for me!)

I'm with you, Duchess...lube should be warm. I use lube regularly when I masturbate and I have even, on rare occasion, put the damned tube in the microwave. Not very long, of course, but it does work!

Now...to find someone to fuck and enjoy the lube with...:)

As a long time lube using couple, we have often looked for a little lube warmer/dispenser. I suspect that lube users the world over would rejoice if someone made one that could be attached to the lube and warm on demand. Oh well, yet another unfulfilled fantasy.

it is totally a mind thing isn't it. I swear I can go from hot hot hot to cold with just one mental slap!

agree with the ring up system - I use the self check out machines at the box stores (hint for you).

I too posted a story - hate to keep telling people, but I got mine in late. So if I don't tell people won't know :)

love this, show the innocence.

Once, I went to the drug store to buy condoms and lube it was a Senior's Discount Day and you should have seen the looks of shame I was getting for casually throwing these things in my basket! What's funny is that I held my head up high and just stared back with the sweetest smile I could muster and then the looked away. :)

It is sweet that you still feel that way, it does capture a certain innocence.

I know exactly what you mean. Last month I bought condoms, lube and a sex "ring" at my local CVS. All was fine until my cashier showed up in my salon, 2 days later, to get his hair done by me.

Veronica always winces and scolds me for not warming the lube in my hand before applying it to her nether regions!

Fun post, I enjoyed reading it!

Oh fab post! love the spin you have put on the starting line!

I'm a chicken, I buy my lube online :o)

Aww...Warming lube is the best! After a couple times of going to the drug store to purchase you won't even think about it! :-)

Lube does not a horny mood make. So very true! Sometimes life (and mind) get in the way though and lube is the only answer ;-)

i remember when i first started masturbating how it would really exacerbate my insomnia because i would lay in bed for hours fantasizing about something or other before getting wet enough to masturbate. you can play with a dry clit for an hour and still not get the kind of wetness than an hour's worth of fantasizing can do. . . though now i more often than not take the lazy way out when i'm in the mood but on a time crunch. not being in the mood is a whole 'nother story. :/

i've been meaning to do some product reviews too, and though i don't have any deadlines to meet, it's proven very difficult to get anything out! i can only imagine what it's like without being properly aroused. *HUGS!*

That was very funny. I also think that lube should be warm. Perhaps you should warm a bowl of water and put the lube in it before use if you know what you are going to be doing.

You know, I feel the same way - the drugstore thing still makes me blush - that and not much else. The last time I was in my local store and I was buying condoms AND a pregnancy test I was rung through by a teenager while a person I knew was at the next cash. Ick.

Nice to see the look or expression the cashier (especially males, whatever age) gives. The "ah you or someone is getting lucky tonight"look.

The icing on the cake is when they need a price check on your lube or condoms, they read off the description with a line of people right behind you! I prefer to buy my supplies on line or a sex store.

it doesn't really make me uncomfortable to buy much, although i know exactly what you mean about the 16yr old boy cashiers. nope, not the most comfortable situation.

arousal really is much more about the mind, i agree. before laying down to use your toy, wash your hands in very warm water. dry them and put the lube in your hand first. it'll warm it up for ya! ;)

Thank God for the yearly sex toy show here... I stock up on lube then and avoid the sniggering teenage boys...
Great post!
